Total Wellness! Events
** IN PROGRESS ** Medical and Mental Health for
Gender Non-Conforming Patients: TBA (Summer, 2008)
A Total Wellness! workshop for providers and
community members alike addressing the unique medical and
mental health concerns of genderqueer, gender variant,
gender non-conforming individuals, maneuvering the various
health care systems, what such individuals need to know
about their own health, what they need to know when
advocating for themselves before various providers and
while negotiating said systems, what mental health and
medical providers and their gender non-conforming clients
might see when faced with individuals who may or may not
identify as gender non-conforming but may desire changes
that do or do not conform to what mental health and medical
clinician might feel comfortable "treating," and so forth.
For example, a male assigned person who does not identify
as female or trans who would like an orchiectomy, or a
genderqueer, gender variant person choosing a
non-traditional or start-stop-start approach (or any other
custom approach) to hormone treatment, surgical and body
modification questions, changing one's body in ways that
may or may not have gendered meaning, changing one's name,
presentation, or social role in ways that may or may not
have gendered meaning - for the individual - and many more
possible subtopics. A lot of issues around harm reduction,
ruling out a plethora of possibly "disorders," managing
provider anxieties, managing patient anxieties, and other
issues.
