Negotiating Sexuality, GenderQueer and Beyond: For
People of All Genders and Bodies (and Parts)
Presenter: Alexander Yoo, MA, MFTI
Description: GenderQueer, gender non-conforming,
gender-diverse, gender-gifted folk often live in the world
with bodies others, even those in the wider trans
community, might deem unconventional. Gender identity and
experience, truly infinite in its variability and
diversity, often goes hand in hand with very nearly equally
varied physical diversity. When negotiating sexual space,
whether in a relationship setting or otherwise, how do
genderqueer, gender non-conforming, other-gender,
androgyne, non-gender, and gender-gifted folks negotiate
the space between internal reality and the body, and
between themselves and the other? What about the emotional,
psychological, behavioral, practical, community elements of
risk, for example, when/how/why to tell your partner what
parts of your body you do or do not associate with
yourself? Or what if you have chosen a so-called mixed
body, presentation, or set of "parts," one that more suits
your "mixed" gender? This workshop will explore the
internal/emotional and practical components of negotiating
sexuality with particular emphasis on addressing risk from
a mental health perspective for people of all genders,
bodies, and parts. For community members and providers. May
include some clinical introduction to gender diversity if a
large provider component attends.
